Background:

Our client is a major player in the shipping industry. They own a subsidiary that specialises in collecting data on marine vessels. A process did exist which was failing and there were no measures in place to monitor or control current performance.
Our consultant was asked to review the process that helps the subsidiary collect data on over 13,000 new vessels that are being built globally in over 2,000 shipyards and based in 50 countries.

Action:

Our consultant worked closely with a team of business experts to:

- Facilitate a full review of the process
- Identify the issues & solutions
- Prioritise which ones would be implemented
- Developed a change implementation plan
- Oversaw the successful implementation of the changes
As well as delivering the solution our consultant focussed heavily on the change management aspects of the project to ensure the solution was accepted by the organisation.

In order to ensure the process continued to perform well, post the project, an effective performance management framework was implemented. This encapsulated a wide range of initiatives to ensure employees are kept engaged and continuously improve the process. Every member of staff was trained in small groups using online conferencing software, the training material was also posted online so it can be accessed in the future, all employees had targets added to their personal goals, an incentive scheme was launched and a single point of contact put in place to manage the process going forward.

Result:

The company achieved an increase in 30% in terms of the quantity of data that was gathered from shipyards. This is expected to improve further due to rigorous continuous improvement controls now in place.
